Stratetegic Planning for Regional Technology Transfer and Job Growth
The goal of this program is to discover and develop the strategies, resources and detailed plans for bringing innovation and technology assets available at universities and government laboratories throughout the country, to specific regions by utilizing technology transfer and entrepreneurship mechanisms. Typically, the objectives of the region are to prevent brain drain due to the lack of high paying jobs, and develop sustainable infrastructure for an innovation-based economy. Many regions desire to transform their economy from one that is dependent upon service based or declining industries, to one that is diverse and includes high growth technology development and related activities.
Our approach is to bring together stakeholders in the region and leverage the existing industrial, academic and government assets and infrastructure to encourage small technology businesses development. Natural markets for the region are identified and guide the search for emerging technologies developed by government funded research institutions that can add value to those markets.
The resulting plan specifies the unique programs, policies, practices, resources, infrastructure, partnerships, timelines and potential funding sources necessary to infuse and sustain technology entrepreneurship and job growth in the regional economy.
Innovation 4 Biz
This unique program is an "Experiential Learning and Implementation Program" focused on the transfer of technology to small businesses. It helps businesses tap into the wealth of technology and scientific research resident in US government and university laboratories - awaiting use. Businesses' innovation capabilities are built by developing an innovation plan through and executing licensing agreements in real-time.
The Innovation 4 Biz program matches small businesses' market strategies with innovations available through government and university technology transfer offices. The program consists of three elements: 1) Development of an innovation needs assessment and strategy map for the existing business to grow their product line or service offerings; 2) Identification and evaluation of new technology opportunities available for licensing and 3) Execution of a Technology Licensing Agreement between the business and the transferring institution. Each steps develops the knowledge and skills necessary for business success throughout the tech transfer lifecycle.
